ICN connects face-to-face

ICN has been involved in a number of significant events in South Australia over the past couple of months. The highly successful Energy Efficiency Expo and Seminar provided opportunities for 45 local suppliers in the energy efficiency sector to showcase their products and services to around 450 attendees. The seminars included presentation on energy improvement measures undertaken by Bickford's, Golden North, TechnoPlas and the University of Adelaide - copies of the seminar presentations are available here.

I was also fortunate to represent ICN SA at the 10th Annual South Australian Major Projects Conference, presenting 20 projects in 20 minutes

The 13th Global Maintenance Upper Spencer Gulf Conference and Trade Expo was held over three days in Whyalla, attracting a record number of visitors. The event was packed with speakers, project case studies and specialised sessions, with major announcements revealing many opportunities for businesses. Read about the 2017 GMUSG Conference highlights, and access Gavin Asikas’s presentations here and here.

ICN SA hosted another successful Profile Improvement Workshop in Adelaide. These two-hour workshops are designed to help local suppliers learn more about ICN and its role in helping suppliers to win contracts. Register for the next workshop.

ICN also regularly attends the Office of the Industry Advocate’s Meet the Buyer events to engage with companies, providing information and linking businesses with ICN Gateway project opportunities.

All these events aim to support your local business and give you more opportunities to connect face-to-face with the ICN team.

No more bumpy rides on South Australia's regional roads
Local suppliers can now register their interest for the Upper Yorke Peninsula Regional Road Network Upgrade Program, which aims to make it a smooth ride for heavy vehicles, motorists and agricultural vehicles travelling around the Upper Yorke Peninsula. Work packages are already open on ICN Gateway, and Downer EDI Limited has been engaged by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure to work on the project. Further information can be found here.

Public Transport Projects Alliance
The Public Transport Projects Alliance is a bundled program of key public transport capital initiatives that aim to optimise South Australia’s public transport network, increase patronage and improve safety. The Oaklands Rail Crossing Grade Separation project will separate the road and rail networks by a rail underpass to improve public transport and passenger access and to improve safety. The Port Dock Railway Line project will construct new rail infrastructure in the heart of Port Adelaide to improve passenger access and activate key Port Adelaide precincts. The Klemzig and Tea Tree Gully Park and Ride project will increase parking spaces and improve passenger access at the Tea Tree Plaza and Klemzig interchanges. Registrations of interest are open now, with the contract expected to be awarded in December. Register to make sure you don’t miss out on any updates.

Gawler rail line electrification project
The $152.5 million Gawler rail line electrification project will create approximately 135 jobs per year during construction and will help Adelaide’s rail network to deliver faster, cleaner, more frequent and more efficient services. The tender process for the project commenced in May this year, with the major works project expected to be awarded in December. Register to make sure you don’t miss out on any updates.

Bustling business at Babcock
Babcock Australasia has three current ICN Gateway portals, including its JP2060 Supply Chain Expansion project . The aim of this project is to further strengthen Babcock’s connection with Australia's supply chain to ensure it can support Australia's deployable medical capabilities into the future. There are also other opportunities to work with Babcock, including the Submarine Supply Chain and  Defence Support Services and Major Service Provider projects.

It's a go for OZ Minerals Carrapateena Copper Gold Mine
OZ Minerals has been given the green light for its copper-gold exploration project, Carrapateena. Work packages are available on the Carrapateena Project – ECI Package 1 – Ausenco Downer portal and Carrapateena – ECI Package 3 – NRW portal. DPTI Forward Work Plan
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure recently launched the Forward Work Plan 2021, which details the South Australian Government’s upcoming capital works projects, including proposed delivery models, to help suppliers plan ahead for opportunities over the next five years. See the Forward Work Plan: Major Programs 2021 for the list of projects.

BHP Local Buying Program
Following similar successful programs in Queensland and New South Wales, BHP has now established the Local Buying Program here in South Australia. This program supports local communities by helping small suppliers to engage with BHP and giving South Australian businesses access to a dedicated buying platform, better payment terms and local business engagement support. The program will operate in the Olympic Dam area and suppliers must have a physical presence in the vicinity – this includes Whyalla, Port Pirie and Port Augusta. Check the BHP website for more information and to get involved.

PACE: EXTEND - Assessing Global Supply Chains Mentoring Program
Austmine’s second PACE: EXTEND program will commence in September 2017 and will comprise three interactive workshops and two webinars. This program will take your company to the next level, provide you with valuable customer insights and take you through strategies to capture new opportunities. For more details on the workshops and to register for the program, visit the Austmine website.

Expanding markets
Expanding markets and exporting was identified as one of four major focus areas in the South Australian Minerals and Energy Services Strategic Statement, which was released in May. For the sector to grow, suppliers must identify and implement global best practice systems and equipment to help their customers. The statement sets out the SA Government’s vision, mission and objectives to grow the sector, increase its contribution to economic development and unlock the state’s natural resources over the next decade. For more information contact Susan Andrews.

Upper Spencer Gulf Economic Participation Region
The Upper Spencer Gulf has been declared an Economic Participation Region under the Industry Participation Policy for the next four years. The project pipeline includes $145 million of Government capital investment projects in the Upper Spencer Gulf, with around $56 million already underway or scheduled in 2017-18. If you are a small business in the region, visit the ICN website to view upcoming opportunities.
